ITCS Service Status

Incident Type: Service Degradation Service Degradation
Start Time: Monday, October 5, 2009 7:30AM
Service Restored: Tuesday, October 6, 2009 11:30PM
Service(s) Affected: MRequest (FootPrints)
Server Name: request.umich.edu
Symptoms: Logins, queries, page refreshes and submissions are taking significantly longer under FootPrints 9.0.3 than under the prior version. We are seeing very high load on the server, which is also causing mail delivery to slow down.

We are working to improve performance and will update the mrequest-community listserv on our progress.

Update (10/6/09 11:30pm): We've applied a series of fixes throughout the day each providing incrementally better improvement. We're happy with the benchmarks we're seeing now, but without normal workday load on the server it is hard to judge the real effect of our changes.

Update (10/9/09 12:40pm): The fixes done on Tuesday resolved all serious/severe performance problems, and there have been no service outages or performance issues since then. While performance is not quite as good as it was under the older version of FootPrints, starting Wednesday we moved on to fixing non-performance-related bugs and problems reported by the community. Once all major bugs are fixed, we hope to analyze the code to see if there is anything else that can be done to improve performance to get speed and responsiveness fully back to their pre-upgrade levels.
